It is a well known fact that at the start of 2020, India's overall logistics cost is at a high point of 13% of India's GDP. In other big sized developed economies like US, Germany the same figure stands at about 8%-9%. In China it is about 10% of GDP.
With India's very competitive and skilled labor force and optimized raw material cost, it is the logistics component that makes Indian products and produce non-competitive in the global landscape.
The cross country DFCs (Direct Freight Corridors) being developed by the Indian Government is a huge step in this direction. NDR is going to leverage this rail connectivity to transport bulk cargo across India.
NDR has a vision of arming all its FTWZs with a functional rail siding. Its first DTWZ at Ennore (near Chennai) will possess a rail siding by October 2020. NDR's second FTWZ at Palasdhari (near Mumbai) will also possess a rail siding by December 2020.
In February 2020, NDR has also signed a MoU with Karnataka State Government to create an Integrated Industrial Corridor along with Kisan Rail for pan-India cold chain movement of agri-produce.
